The game is not shit, it's not even FINISHED, to this day ten years since they teased it.....
They didn't spend any time on item design, not a single interesting gearing decision outside of kanai's cube. Set bonuses render ALL unique item properties (the few that HAVE interesting abilities) irrelevant.
They didn't spend any time on endgame encounter design, we have no atziri, no elder, no shaper, no unique maps, needs more variety of endgame options. Greater rifts are flavorless, gating end game content behind RNG isn't bad, its GOOD, it creates tension and excitement and a feeling of exclusivity.
No deterministic grinding like in POE, which allows for people to reliably farm a specific item.
They didn't allow you to make meaningful choices for your characters stats or skills, everything is fluid, like you're a scientist who can rewrite his DNA every 5 seconds.
You can't trade...not much incentive to farm for cool gear once you've got what you want.
You are forced to do bounties for crafting materials, that should just be random drops instead....game design 101, don't force people into a specific activity...
You can brawl, but they put hard hosing necklaces in the game which make pvp stupid, also 600 K health vs 100 Billion damage.....
Progression feels meaningless because there's always another randomly generated, personality absent dungeon that is 1 tier higher than the last one you could compete.
But the engine is so smooth, the combat is so visceral...the scenery is so gorgeous, the atmosphere of some settings...
If we took this engine and put it in the hands of a proper designer, it could be great. Instead we have...well we have ...a dumpster fire.
This game has no identity, it has no core competence, it doesn't know what it is or what it wants to accomplish, it has no flavor or style. It's a con job, a cheap imitation that represents everything wrong with big corporations.
