Trotz just said he was resigning from his coaching position with Washington and not coming back. They didn't say if he was retiring or planning on coaching a different team.

Edit: It seems that Trotz is walking away from the organization because he felt disrespected that the Washington brass threatened to fire him if they didn't get past the 2nd round this year. He won his cup, but still has resentment towards that. Also he wants a pay raise.

most likely coaching another team.
He wanted a raise, he won the cup so his contract is extended to another 2 years but with the current contract the pay is shit. He probably wanted more, but the team wasn't willing to pay thus he stepped down/quit so he can head to FA where other teams may pay for his services.

Calgary coulda had him if they were more patient kappa.
Looks like NYI or Buff? EDM?!?!?!

I mean it's pretty disrespectful in general not to re-up your coach when he's on the last year of his deal. Ontop of that he wasnt getting paid anywhere near someone with his experience should be and he was basically being shit talked by the organization. I can see why he'd want to leave, I'm sure he loves the group of players but hates the management group.

E: Wish Calgary would have held on, he's definitely a guy I would have been excited to come here. When Wash looked like they were going to be eliminated after falling 0-2 to the Jackets I was salivating at the thought.

To be fair it's not being disrespectful for a GM not wanting to offer an extension, when your coach is a huge success during season, but gets eliminated 3 times in the 2nd round in the playoffs for 3 straight years. GM probably planned on letting him go from the above fact. However Trotz finally delivered and won the cup this year, which changed everything. Trotz signed the contract that he would be extended couple years if he wins a cup. If he truly believed he could win the cup prior to signing with Washington, he wouldnt have signed the contract in the first place and asked for more $$$$$$ before committing to another couple years on lower pay or at least asked to remove that part in the contract. Though i agree he was treated like shit by the organization during his time there

And Keenan always had an elephant-sized ego, allegedly leaving because the Rangers didn't pay his bonuses on time.

so yah this is a big deal.
