maybe because i can relate to the main character a lot, i like these kind of existential movies loads

Well. I was excited for that movie because of the director. He does really good stuff, and his previous film with Ryan was amazing.

But the movie was just a steaming pile of shit. And part of what makes me hate it even more is the people who like it usually defend it by saying something like "oh you just didn't understand the symbolism".

Like bitch, I understood the symbolism, you aren't fucking special because you understood Ryan wanted to fuck his mother. Symbolism doesn't make a fucking movie. If you sacrifice plot and character and development and literally every other aspect of the movie to shove in all your symbolic bullshit then your movie is going to suck. Symbolism is meant to be used to enhance a good story and good characters and good directing, not replace it.
