once i have a temple that CAN be open but not yet, can I still farm incursions to upgrade other rooms? or no?

No. Once the temple is ready, opening the temple is the only option. You can only enter another incursion after you complete the temple that is ready to be done.

You dont have to complete the temple though

You can open, join a new zone and start new incursions for a new temple

If your temple doesnt have at least 2 level three rooms [max vault, max breach, two max rooms that benefit boss like lightning or explosive or fire.] Then just open and leave it alone.

Unless you feel like going in, sacrificing an item then leaving.

True! Just to add: If you have any breach room (even tier 1), breachstones can drop from there. Good to go in and open em
