today brought some developments in the war on leakers:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/ex-senate-staffer-faces-charges-in-leak-investigation/2018/06/07/2155c956-6abf-11e8-bbc5-dc9f3634fa0a_story.html

Former senate staffer James A. Wolfe of the Senate Intelligence Committee was indicted on three counts of making false statements to FBI agents. The government alleges that Wolfe lied to FBI agents in December 2017 about “repeated contacts” with three reporters, including through the use of encrypted messaging applications. He is further alleged to have lied about providing two reporters with “non-public information related to matters occurring before the [committee],” the statement read.

He was having "a romantic relationship" with New York Times reporter (then-Buzzfeed) Ali Watkins. In a first for the Trump administration, prosecutors targeted the journalist Watkins and seized materials including phone records and email metadata from her as part of the case (not the emails themselves). This is one step to send a chill into the freedom of the press, on par with what Obama and Bush did to target leakers, but not quite up to the dangerous precedents of prosecuting / imprisoning / threatening the journalists with imprisonment like they did, so small consolation there, and rather than warrantless spying they did the proper warrant and informing the journalist before seizing records.

For a few excerpts;

Quote
On or about October 16,2017, WOLFE informed REPORTER #3, using Signal, that he had served MALE-I with a subpoena to appear before the SSCI. 25. On or about October 17 , 2017, REPORTER #3 asked WOLFE, using Signal, to provide REPORTER #3 with MALE-I's contact information, and WOLFE agreed to do so. Later that day, a news organization published a story, under REPORTER #3's byline, reporting that 7 MALE- t had been subpoenaed to testifu by the SSCI, and that MALE-I had been contacted by the news organization for comment. After the story was published, WOLFE congratulated REPORTER #3, using Signal, stating "Goodjob!" and "I'm glad you got the scoop." REPORTER #3 wrote back, using Signal,"Thank you. [MALE-l] isn't pleased, but wouldn't deny that the subpoena was served." 26. On or about October 18, 2011, MALE-1 sent an email to the SSCI, complaining that the news organization had published REPORTER #3's news articie of the previous day, reporting that he had been subpoenaed. 27. On or about October 24,2017, at 7:00 a.m., WOLFE informed REPORTER #3, using Signal, that MALE-1 would testify in closed hearing before the SSCI "this week." At 9:58 a.m., REPORTER #3 sent aa email to MALE-I, asking him to confirm that he would be 'paying a visit to Senate lntelligence staffers this week." At 9:23 p.m., MALE-I sent aa email to the SSCI, forwardirg the email he had received from REPORTER #3, and complaining that the details of his appoarance had been leaked to the press.

Do we know who MALE-1 is? This story just broke so I'm in full speculative mode about some of the redacted identities, but presumably MALE-1 is Carter Page;

Also that week were Google/Facebook/Twitter representatives but they weren't subpoenaed were they? So I assume Carter Page

people are going to have a field day digging up all the details, but this is definitely one of the products of the leaking:

A Former Trump Adviser Met With A Russian Spy
Carter Page told BuzzFeed News that he had been in contact with at least one Russian spy working undercover out of Moscow’s UN office in 2013.

Ali Watkins
BuzzFeed News Reporter

Ali Watkins was working for Buzzfeed at the time and was the reporter who named Carter Page in the Russia investigation, until then masked as 'MALE-1' in court filings. He then came out and confirmed it after she revealed his name.
She apparently got this information by banging SSCI staffer Wolfe, who leaked it to her.

okay I'm filling in in the blanks here
This article shows;
https://www.buzzfeed.com/alimwatkins/a-former-trump-adviser-met-with-a-russian-spy
MALE-1 = Carter Page
Reporter #2 = Ali Watkins

Reporter #3 is tougher to track down. I see multiple articles saying they have an original source;
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/senate-subpoenas-former-trump-adviser-carter-page-n811551

and from the USA today article:
Quote
The Senate Intelligence Committee has issued a subpoena to compel testimony and documents from former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page,according to a congressional aide who was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.
Page did not confirm or deny that he has been subpoenaed.
Along with his statement, Page sent USA TODAY a copy of an Oct. 11 Washington Examiner story in which he offered to testify at a Nov. 1 public hearing that the Senate Intelligence Committee has scheduled. That hearing will focus on Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election by manipulating social media in the U.S. Executives from Facebook, Twitter and Google are expected to testify.

The other articles have multiple reporters in the byline and don't specific their source as a congressional aide. All three articles say they talked to page.
Considering the USA today one definitely talked to Wolfe, I'd guess Reporter #3 = Erin Kelly of USA Today.

And for Reporter #1 & #4, not enough details provided to even try

/e also this LOL:

I'm gonna quadruple post for this one:

She knew the leaker was James Wolfe who she was sleeping with and getting the SSCI leaks from. She was lying on twitter and accusing Trump's lawyers of being the leakers
To the NYT's credit, she didn't join them until a couple months later, so she was still a Politico reporter at the time (buzzfeed -> politico -> NYT)

So she's 22 years old and graduates from Templeton and then starts at McClatchyDC as a low level reporter who suddenly gets a huge break when she gets a scoop on a story from the Senate Intelligence Agency report into the CIA torture program. Her story goes national and she rapidly climbs the ladder over the next 3 years from Buzzfeed -> Politico -> New York Times, the same three years she was sleeping with James Wolfe and breaking more stories from inside the Senate Intelligence Committee.

fucking her way to the top

His wife he was cheating on was the FBI's section chief for the counterterrorism bureau and a 20 year FBI veteran.
>During her two-decade span at the FBI, she led national programs dedicated to national security, criminal investigations and technology systems.
to inb4 any russiaburger theorizing, she retired early into 2016. She was very much counterterrorism and investigated the USS Cole bombing, TWA 800, Egypt Air 990 and 9/11.
