so much time wasted debating whether sources are legitimate to use....

let's be honest wikileaks dropping a batch of unfiltered unverified files has as much effect as a perfectly legitimate and vetted source.

While the government wastes time spinning their wheels with questions of "was this appropriate" they're ignorring the issue that any and all info at any and all levels of the federal government can and will be leaked if it has any minor stench on it by one side or the other. While they spend time deciding what size to cut a cork the boat springs 200 new holes.

This isn't a change in the media, it's a change in the avenues of information. Files used to be a paper folder in a room that was heavily guarded, or lightly guarded in the case of watergate. Now it's a wisp of air accessible on any device by any person. Still the reactions are as partisan and predictable as they would be in the pre-viral age. We need to spend more time finding out if the cat is alive in the box, and less time arguing whether the box is the right dimension, from a journalistic standpoint. and we need to do some really hard work on updating legal precedent for the new age, citing old cases makes you look like an idiot.
