It's just not about "relying on the trading system". It adds huge depth and longevity to the game. For example, if you find an item for your friend, you can give it to him later. Or, if you find a item and it's not something for your build, but you can sell it, to get the funds to buy something for your build, etc, etc. There is so much more to trading. If you think it's just because people "rely on it", that's a very naive viewpoint imo.
Everything you mentioned can be done solo play. Also everything you mentioned can still be done in D3 on multiplater. D3 was implemented with ways of gathering your goods in both areas. You guys still try to argue against something that exists and does well. You guys hate it because it doesn't trade like D2, and it doesn't have to in order for it to be a good system.
Truth is still to this day is if you have to trade to be good, you are not good. Soloing is better and alot more fun to begin with, but people are lazy. It's why everything I do in gaming is solo.
D3 has a trade system. It also has a way of selling the gear you don't need to purchase the gear you do need.
