What I mean is that these bombings don't seem to have accomplished any of their intended goals of crippling assad given the combination of an advanced warning by the usa to russia that strikes are coming and adherence to the russian rules on which targets the west is permitted to strike. It's a colossal waste of resources that seems to serve no real purpose.

I don’t think there was ever an intent to cripple Assad, quite the contrary. Don’t need another vacuum. All it was ever meant to be was a bloody nose , and to that point it was a success

The facilities were the target, not the people. I'm not in favor of the bombings, but the point seemed to be an attempt to slow down chemical weapons production and show that their actions are being watched by the West. It's not like they can move entire facilities, but at least they avoided unnecessary casualties.
