I don't understand what it is. It feels as if low diamond players are worse than mid plat players. As I climb, I feel like the people I play with gets worse and worse. I still win, but they're just so bad now. Anyone have any input?

My guess is that they're in diamond so they just dick around and play shit they're not comfortable with.
Another reason might be that since they think they made it to the top, they are the best and just do their own thing (not doing teamplay macro).

A lot of people get to diamond purely off outplaying their opponents in lane or being mechanically superior

But diamond is where the game actually begins. It's where you start to learn real macro and diamond 5 players just haven't developed any yet.
