I think he wants shows that are fun entertainment that don't require you to follow an entire season to understand the overarching story. Like how tv shows used to be before they became essentially segmented movies.

I've been watching deception. It's not an award winning show but it's a fun buddy cop show. Replacement for the mentalist, except they use a magician instead and catch the bad guy through neat little illusions. It's fun.

I always fall back on shows like scrubs and that 70s show and friends.

That doesn't really seem to fit based on the shows he listed, as the ones he posted are "essentially segmented movies". Sure, shows did this in the past more-so than today, but now it's pretty much for sitcoms only, which wasn't what he asked for.

Both are fine choices for light/background watching.

I haven't seen lethal weapon (cuz why would I) but I assume it's buddy cop bullshit with maybe 5-10% of the episode going towards some random plot advancement that most shows feel the need to shoehorn in these days. I've seen a few episodes of Lucifer and that's basically exactly what Lucifer is. Buddy cop show with a few minutes advancing some bullshit storyline about Lucifer's family. Maybe an episode here or there with a focus on that background story so they can actually advance it in a meaningful way, but 100% not the focus of most episodes.

The mentalist lasted like 7seasons/150+ episodes. I bet all the red John shit is like...1/2 a season worth of content.
