If I had my choice, it would be for a parcel of land, a few head of cattle, a few sheep, a garden for vegies, near fresh water and near a small town for luxuries.
But then, I remember things like...
Dentists with anesthetics
A life span of more than 30-35 years
Doctors with anesthetics.
Telephones for emergencies
Assistance. with my cattle, and sheep and farm, when I fall and break my leg(s), ya know, hunting in the winter maybe.
Entertainment beyond a monthly square dance.
Assistance with protecting my parcel of land and assets from robbers, or highwaymen.
The society we enjoy today, is really complex. It has millions of parts that require other parts to function. Like building blocks.
We'd all like a more idyllic type of existence. But in order to have that there starts an unending growth towards something pretty much like we have today.
Believe It or Not barbarians did not commit suicide and people were a lot happier before the philosophical death of God.
It is so easy to be comfortable now that nobody accomplishes anything except for a few producers.
Capitalism has alienated people so far from their life's work that they don't even consider what they produce as theirs. Because it isn't theirs, they just work the create Surplus value for their employers after paying their own salary.
I have to do mission based work. I can't just work for the enrichment of another human being. I wouldn't be able to do something like that. But I can be picky because I am speaking from a position of privilege.
