to be fair, i would not be surprised if this actually was a factor. i think that's a valid argument to make, but ofc you would act like it accounts for all of the difference.
I didnt claim that this factor makes up all the difference. but it disproves the "trump is weaker at deporting ppl than obama" argument that you brought up. also note that the deportation numbers under obama varied a lot between years.
look here, for example:
https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/obama-record-deportations-deporter-chief-or-notnot only can we see that obama deported a lot less people than bush or clinton, the number of deportations during his presidency fell sharply over the years. he started "strong" with 970k in his first year in office, but ended with less than half that at 450k in his final year.

what we also should not forget is the FACT that trump's #1 target on immigration issues, mexico, has currently a NEGATIVE immigration balance with the usa. that makes buildin 'the wall', something trump prominently promised his voters mexico would pay for and now wants to spend billions of taxpayer money on, even more absurd than ever before.
um, I hope you do realize that mexico is a transit country for almost all illegal immigrants coming to the US from central america. there are no longer a lot of
mexicans coming across the southern border, but there are still a lot illegal immigrants
coming from mexico across the southern border.
