Four new changes over the past few days:

http://thehill.com/latino/380827-ice-will-detain-pregnant-women-ending-previous-policy
https://www.npr.org/2018/03/29/597863489/sessions-want-to-overrule-judges-who-put-deportation-cases-on-hold
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/us/politics/trump-temporary-immigration-status-liberians.html

  • Ending the blanket exemption of pregnant women from ICE detention. Now instead ICE will judge on a case-by-case basis and treat pregnant women as any other illegal alien, detained if a flight risk or danger to community, but still favoring releasing women in the third trimester
  • Ending or limiting (exact details not yet announced) the use of administrative closure by judges, in which they could set illegal aliens free indefinitely by refusing to ever schedule hearings on deportations, keeping them in legal limbo while out free. Its estimated that 200,000 administrative closures have been kept open by judges in the past 5 years, meaning the judges would be forced to schedule hearings for these cases and start issuing rulings.
  • Setting quotas for immigration judges. No real details on this beyond "implement numeric performance standards to evaluate Judge performance", not how its being implemented or enforced or legal basis or timeline. Pretty sure NPR is full on shit including the mention but I think its worth bringing up
  • Ending TPS/DED for Liberians. Mostly located in Minnesota, Liberians were first given Temporary Protected Status in 1991 in response to the civil war, then in 1999 a 1 year deadline of 'Deferred Enforced Departure' after hostilities had ended that gave a window before the deportations started, even though the civil war itself ended in 1997 and the US officially recognized the end of all armed conflict in 2003, yet the TPS persisted until 2007, and even then Bush decided to add an additional 18 months of DED, which was then renewed for an additional 18 months in 2009 by Obama, and again in 2011, and again in 2013 and again in 2016. This time, Trump renewed it for 12 months, declaring this the final year and it terminating, at which point deportations begin. Of course he could always change his mind, but the official word is its over on March 31st 2019

the thing is, obama's ICE focused on border security, while trump has them focusing on interior removals and administrative arrests. obama focused on violent criminals concerning those already living in the usa and overall deported MORE than trump.
