There is a big difference of having every card, of an Expansion, and having only the ”good” cards.

play a lot of arena, when you get good at it it's better than spending the 100 gold on packs

Idk what other answer you are looking for. It's a card game, you have to spend $$ to compete. Or you can try to make a cheap aggro deck and beatup other noobs on unranked for 10g/3 wins for free and hit the daily gold cap.

I buy $50 worth of packs every expansion usually and I maintain a few "meta" decks and rank 5 every month with minimal effort. Other than that I play every few days to do my dailies and when I have time I'll spend an hour or two climbing the ladder or running an arena if I'm bored of standard. Never touch wild because I started playing after GvG so missing key cards.

i recently got everything i needed for all the top decks for around $280 usd, after only having bought like 10 packs of ungoro and coming back near the end of march, bought 140 packs of kobolds / 140 of frozen throne

but i mean the way i think about it is that if i average the amount of $ over the no of hours i spent playing the game

it's like way cheaper than going bowling or pool or whatever other hobby that normal healthy people have ^^
