I'm not sure if PC is same as console, but on console the mailbox is disabled for seasons, and even if you drop gear the other players can't see it.

Does that only apply to legendary and sets? Ive been running through with first char the last 2 days with a friend and we have been dropping items that prove more useful to the other person, we havent tried dropping any legendaries though.

Yes you can drop gear for others on PC.

Regular items and gold disappear after exactly 10 minutes.

Magic items will disappear after 20 minutes.

Rare, Set, Crafted, and Unique items will disappear after lying on the ground for 30 minutes.

You have to be in game with them if they find it. If you arent playing with them when it drops they cant trade it to you or drop it
