That "system" would basically rely on each individual flagging their threads manually (?)
I mean.. those who care will already post "closed" or "no longer need" or whatever when they are done.
The rest will have their threads there exactly like before.

I don't see the point.

Not everybody reads the last page to see if an item is sold. You also can only edit the first post in your topic for 3 days unless you are a verified or preferred member. All other posts you can't edit after 30min. Many users sell items via PM.

Who wants to read through every post in every topic to see if an item is sold and they want to know what it sold for?

I'd rather mass flag each completed trade with my post tracker.

The edit timer on trade posts is 3 days which is plenty enough time for traders to edit the op with /closed or /done.

I think it would also take away from the aesthetics of the forum page. (Too many icons and stuff)
This is of course just my opinion, but I think the cleaner/simpler looking the better. :)

Not on non ladder realms, it's not.

Agree to this, the simpler the better

If the trade is done, edit your first post, if you can not edit it just let the thread die.
If the items are still up for sale, bump it every 4 hours so people will know that its for sale :)
