Then you get examples like the wright brothers holding the entire world back out of greed for an idea that was certain to come from some one else relatively fast, and they could hold it back for decades.
I also support fair use if your patent is an important working component in some one else's design, they should have to pay you for the usage, but you should not be able to hold back progress out of spite.

That's a patent, not copyright...copyright typically involves things like music, literature, etc.

You left out an option. I do not believe in intellectual property rights. Fuck patents.

That would only work under socialism. People need to be rewarded for R&D somehow.

I am covering both patents and copyright in this thread, although the two are separate.

Ok. I'd say that copyright should last a lifetime plus a year if you do not sell your rights to anyone else. If you sell your rights to a production company, record company, etc. it should only last 20 years.

Trademarks should be indefinite (i.e. Coca Cola) as long as you keep renewing it on a 5 year basis.

Patents are a bit trickier and really depends on the industry. Given how quickly technology is evolving, I think 20 years is a bit too long. We should decrease it to 10 years and see what the results are first.

I actually think all of this makes sense, anyone would think you had experience.
I would like to see fair use on dead content though and something to kick abandoned content into the public domain so that there is a universal pool of content to draw on.

When you have no faith, you don't believe in God.
When you have no intellect, you don't believe in in intellectual property right.

Makes sense.
