So, I just dropped by Ebaumsworld for my 5 minute laugh of the day and saw a video there about a drone fitted with a gun by a student who help from a professor. The drone flies up in the camera feed about 5 feet off the ground and fires a few shoots. My first thought was, "Oh great, so this how skynet started," but I also took some positive thoughts from it. This kind of technology is actually developed could help our troops in a war. It could save lives where police or others entering would be dangerous...Perhaps a hostage situation or one involving a bomb. But it could also lead to a very dark place. Imagine terrorists getting their hands on it. Or if they are developed in numbers being used as assassination attacks with the operator out of sight. What are your thoughts on this?

I think aiming a gun with a mobile platform like this would be kinda hard. I'd say a more effective assassination drone would be one that just carries an explosive and flies into the target and blows up. A suicide drone. Wouldn't surprise me if some politician like a president eventually gets assassinated this way at some public speaking event.

bomb sniffing drones, land mine sensing drones, etc already exist. even just unarmed camera drones are used to help the troops currently.

This should scare the pants off you and make you re-evaluate your life...

Well, just imagine you don't have to aim. There are all kinds of technological advances in auto pilot AI considering cars, maps, heat sensory, mobile/walking robots that can run/open doors/hand you drinks. They may just adapt an AI setting into where it can detect a person or specific target through a computer or with coding.

Haha, I've actually seen this before too and honestly it's probably not too far off. I mean thinking about it we may not have those direct bots created but the technology is basically there with motion sensors, AI piloting, and the rate at which all are advancing!

You could assemble a fleet of several hundred drones in the woods close to a major city armed with guns or bombs and then send them all in at once. But what would be the goal? If you wanted to cause a panic, it would be vastly more efficient to just set up one car bomb outside a niteclub. If you had a fleet of drones with advanced AI and tons of range like 100 miles on 1 charge, maybe it could be useful in a strategic attack but not drones we have today.

Perhaps create like 100,000 fly sized drones each kitted with a deadly poison and then release them all at once to target high profile individuals. Impossible to stop.
