All this jazz about money, manipulation, and third party programs and websites led to the creation of the real money auction house for d3. I think blizzard to an extent really understood their player base. People want to level fast asap and get end game gear asap. But they did mess up the purpose of all those means by having zero pvp or mediocre pvp.

Blizzard in their minds are like: well if you are going cheat and potentially make profit from our game, then we might as well take a cut. It was a complete disaster. I speculate that Blizzard finally realized how to stop this problem and keep making money. It was done years ago in world of warcraft, by having bind on pickup items. And by eliminating cheating to less than 5%, they don't have to worry about sharing the market. This also leads to the IP restriction. If you share your accounts or sell them, then they assume the worst and ban you. They are taking zero chances.

Their marketing research has learned that games like street fighter 5, league of legend, and of course, WoW, make money from micro transactions. This may also be the future of the diablo series. If we want more content or some kind of power up, then we have to pay $5 - $10 for it. They did it with the d3 necromancer. The Diablo series may become like wow more than ever. We have to thank the hackers ( computer programmers) and cheaters for complicating the situation to get it to this point. You can say that it is human nature to manipulate and cheat, but for that reason Blizzard is well justified for their decisions. Part of the blame is on the hackers and cheaters for d3 and beyond. It is why Blizzard struggled and continues to struggle making diablo games. It's a conflict of interest. And on that basis, it is highly unlikely that the aged gamer base will see another diablo game that caters to their liking. We simply do not have the time to play a game 8 hrs + a day unless unemployed or disabled. Our time is over.
