Lord I have a degree in mathematics and I don’t think you have enough info tbh.

You know the following things.
1. 2/3 of the muffins are bran, 1/3 cranberry
2. Sold 120 cranberry muffins, sold 7/8 of bran muffins
3. Still has 1/6 of total muffins remaining

I thought maybe 120 cranberry /.33 = 360 total
This 7/8 * 240 = 210
Thus sold = 120 + 210 = 330
Remaining = 360-330 = 30/360 = has

Yeah i agree with shinedown. I got this far and figured there wasn't enough to get it done

2/3 B

1/3 C

120 C

7/12 B

120 C + 7/12 B = 1/6 T

720 C + 3.5B = T

B = (T-720)/3.5

240 + (7/3)B = T

Indeed problem is your left with 1/12 remaining not 1/6 as the problem stated. I had the numbers correct they just gave us the wrong initial conditions.

Sold = 400.

You need to isolate the remaining muffins in terms of Total (T) muffins

We know that Remaining = 1/6 T

Bran = B = 2/3 T
Cranberry = C = 1/3 T

BranRemaining = (1 - 7/8)B = 1/8 B
CranRemaining = C - 120

Write all this in an equation in terms of T in order to find the total.

Remaining = BranRemaining + CranRemaining
1/6 T = (1/8)(2/3) T + 1/3 T - 120

Once you isolate T to one side, you can solve for T = 480.

You then need to plug in T to find out the # Sold. This comes from the problem: 7/8 Bran sold and 120 Cranberry sold.

Sold = 7/8 B + 120
Sold = (7/8)(2/3) T + 120
Sold = (7/8)(2/3)(480) + 120
Sold = 400

You can double-check the remaining vs. # sold.
Total - Sold = Remaining
480 - 400 = 80

80/480 = 1/6

There’s enough info, but it seems like an advanced algebra problem for an 11yr old. Especially with the common core math that’s been taught the past few years.

Right I heard they don't even teach kids how to do long division anymore
