No you actually access the DLC content early, if you wanted. Do you want me to explain how you get there?

Please, tell me your secrets

Step 1: You should of already killed Vicar Amelia, after killing there should be an altar behind her with a skull that you activate to turn the day into night.

Step 2: Go to the Hunter’s Dream and receive Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter from a messenger. This is the item that will grant you access.

Step 3: Go to the Cathedral Ward and leave out the exit to the left that leads to enter the square.

Step 4: Go to the right-hand end of the square where the hunter set and top hat are located and the Lesser Amygdala will grab you. This will take you to The Hunter’s Nightmare.

Step 5: Lighting the lamp in the new area will allow you to travel to and from the area from the Hunter's Nightmare Awakening Headstone in the Hunter’s Dream . It can be found by the insight shop where the Doll will sometimes kneel and pray.

Edit: would it benefit me to go there now to the hunters nightmare or just continuing on with i guess what would be the main storyline

With where your at now, I would do it now. It's a tough dlc, but it's beneficial doing it before you get deep into the main storyline imo.

Well, i just beat Micolash, host of the nightmare
What an asshole that guy was
Took me 5 attempts
He just kept 1shotting me with his arcane missle blast during his second phase
Then on my last attempt i just pummeled him into the ground before he could do anything
All in all, he was pretty random
Pretty OP at times, then without even trying he was a cakewalk
