So I was driving to work today, and my truck wouldn't go over 35mph.

So i left my house today, like the last month or two when I accelerate 0-50mph around 30 it goes high RPM then I let off the gas and it "catches" then I cand rive normal. Only would do it once, usually in the AM after sitting in the cold all night. (was about 2degrees this morning)

but today, it never "caught" just rev high and fluttered around 35mph going down hill. After the hill, I was around 25-30mph. Luckily the speed limit there was 30 so i wasn't that big of a dick, and it was only like a half mile/mile drive then residential to my parents so I didn have to worry.

The truck is a 2003 Chevy 1500 I believe, 230k Miles. The Speedomoter wasn't working last week, but started working again Saturday and the RPM gauge hasn't worked in probably 5 years.

Simply, does it sound like the trans is bad and not changing gears, or something else? A ball park price to repair if that's the issue? I don't want to spend to much, but my other car is a C5 so wasn't really wanting to drive that in the cold or snow if needed.

Honestly, I would assume. Never checked/added before. Always go with the "We checked, Topped, and changed all Fluids" at the dealership. (I don't pay for the service on it)

Could just need the filter changed too especially at 230k miles if it has never been done. I would change the fluid and filter first before I did anything else. Jegs has the filter the gasket and the fluid for $42 with a quick google search

At work, but Ill check when I'm home around it.

Does it matter about outside tempature when checking? I tried to half ass googe while I have time today and some say start the truck to get a read on it, to test "warm"
