So I was just crusing around the web. I heard what sounded like a bzzzt and my pc shut off instantly (no menu splash, just straight to black)

I shut off the power switch on PSU and left for 5 min. Then tried to turn it back on, but got zero response from the computer.

Bad PSU?

Well, something definitely fried. Zero response from the entire comp does point to the power supply.

You can always do the paper clip test to make sure. https://www.wikihow.com/Check-a-Power-Supply

Also I'm sure you have, but test the obvious first:

make sure the power cord plug is firmly into the electric outlet and the outlet is working (and the power strip if applicable)
make sure power cord is firmly in the PSU and that the power switch is on
check to see if any lights in the case are lit

No response from PSU when jumping it the green/black with paper clip as described in link.

So bad PSU.

Looks like I’ll need another.

Anyone want to help me size/select a new?

I have a micro center about 20 miles away which is where I bought this stuff 4 years ago. Some other typical stores too. Or amazon (2 day shipping :o)

/e also looks like I have a different PSU than the 1 I posted.
I have a Corsair cx600m

Anything to do with the broken one? Can I fix it?

It's possible, but usually not worth it.

Right now, this is the best bang for the buck...

And I’d go with a more powerful PSU than the 430 watts or whatever you said (sorry I’m using mobile) those FX CPU’s are very power hungry. I’d go with about a 600watt for the price just my opinion.

Edit: Ghot linked ya to a good one.

Thanks Ghot, you’re always willing to help people and I really appreciate that.

I picked up that PSU today and got that nice $20 MiR

Now if only I could get better at cable management. I saw your PC from that dust thread... mine looks like a rats nest in comparison :( I try to run everything through the back wall, but it doesn’t work out well.

that's what I find I'm still fairly new at building pc's but I find the hardest part is pluging in the PSU to the MOBO correctly. I'm a noob.
