Their leverage is the deadline. The shutdown is what happens when the deadline is met, yes, but that has been set-in-stone long before this particular debate began.

You can't give opposition a piece of leverage, only to start bitching at them when they actually use it. If you don't like the shutdown system, then start a thread about that.

Corporation owners can and should have the right to regulate their content, as does JSP. If it's a big enough problem, a right-wing Twitter would start because free marketz, right?

We can shorten the name to represent cutting the budget and just call it Twits.

Twitter is violating its own terms of use

Love people pretending to understand issues tho

In 2013, during the last govt. shutdown, it was the Reps holding the country hostage to try and prevent Obama from passing Obamacare.

Quote
The 2013 shutdown lasted 17 days, during October 1–16, 2013. During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were indefinitely furloughed, and another 1.3 million were required to report to work without known payment dates.[35] The deadlock centered on the Continuing Appropriations Resolution, 2014. The Republican-led House of Representatives, in part encouraged by conservative senators such as Ted Cruz[36] and conservative groups such as Heritage Action,[37][38][39] offered several continuing resolutions with language delaying or defunding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act(commonly known as "Obamacare"). The Democratic-led Senate passed several amended continuing resolutions for maintaining funding at then-current sequestration levels with no additional conditions. Political fights over this and other issues between the House on one side and President Barack Obama and the Senate on the other led to a budget impasse which threatened massive disruption.[40][41][42] Late in the evening of October 16, 2013, Congress passed the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014, and the President signed it shortly after midnight on October 17, ending the government shutdown and suspending the debt limit until February 7, 2014.[43]

/e In that instance I think it was a good thing (trying to stop Obamacare). This time it's the Dems holding the country hostage so illegal aliens can have our cake and eat it too.

IMO, Obamacare was not only a bad idea, but it passed without proper funding. So I think that in 2013 the Reps did this country a favor or tried to.
This time the Dems want to save the dreamers AND keep DACA running, which the Reps are against. Save the dreamers...maybe, keep DACA running...no way!

So, I think in both 2013 and 2018 the Reps were on the right track. In both cases I think the Dems were just being idiotic.

No, that's what you call "taking hostages". You are not necessarily right.

I mean if you're gonna call it 'taking hostages' when the govt shuts down then why have the stupid fucking laws that allow the govt to shut down anyway?
Seems fucking retarded to me to make a million-ish civil servants and all the people who use the services for which they are responsible pay for the idiocy of a ridiculous two-party political system that is basically set up in a manner that means bipartisan agreements are toxic to both parties.

Leevee is right. The US political system needs a serious overhaul. I literally only started following it because it's an absolutely hilarious shitshow of incompetency, stupidity, greed and bitchiness. It's entertaining as fuck, certainly the world's most hilarious and engaging reality TV show (though that's not saying much as reality TV is the most base entertainment available), but isn't it just embarrassing to have that as a system of government?

When you have Ted fucking Cruz as head of the Committee for Space, Science and Competitiveness isn't that a wake up call? and when you have Donald J Trump sitting in the Oval office isn't it clear that you missed that wake up call and have actually overslept til like... noon the next day? It's way past time for change America. Come the fuck on.
