so here we've got a story of a murder and attempted cover up followed by a light sentence

>obese girl murders her slimmer friend (possibly out of size envy)
>lie to the police about what happened to her friend
>make a fake facebook post about how she's worried her friend is missing
>get uncle to lie to provide an alibi

>get caught via selfie post with weapon used to commit crime
>cry about how she was abused as a child
>judge hands out 7 year sentence saying "Honour your friend by becoming a positive member of the community,"

you'd think the attempt at a coverup ought to warrant a much harsher sentence but the system is simply to lenient on women

This is a perfect argument for capital punishment.

Seven years is pretty average for a kill. People get off lighter.

Not a slap on the wrist.

7 years should not be average for murder, if it indeed is

Actions that result in another person killed because you strangled them to death?

Let's just keep you away for 7 years and then hope a person raised from abuse and has the emotional profile to strangle someone to death.

Men get punished harder by the criminal justice system and that's just 100% true.

The state shouldn't have the authority to take life.

63% longer, in fact. So assume for this it would have been about an extra 4 years if the killer was a man.

I generally ascribe to the notion that if the state is giving you the "privilege" of rights/freedoms by ensuring you have them, then it's within their right to remove them if you violate the laws of society or are burdensome to it.

But the state does not give you your life, so there's no basis for the state to be able to justifiably use capital punishment.
