This. They are basically the same, but newer stuff being made is starting to only support python 3.x

Just learn python. Learn Python 3 unless you have a specific reason you want to learn 2. (You probably don't) Ruby is one of the most hated languages (I hate it) and python is one of the least-hated languages(I like it).

Python can do just about everything ruby can and you are more likely to enjoy doing it.
