1060 3gb actually performs much closer to the 6 gb variant than a 1050 ti. It has ALMOST as many shaders (within 10% iirc), and still the same clock speeds. If anything it should have been1060 (3gb) and 1060 ti (6gb).
The 1050 and 1050 ti are meant to be extremely low power variants for people on a budget, essentially something you can use as an add in card on an existing pre-builds. They don't require any external power; they are powered solely by the PCI slot.
i think ya missed my point
if the 1060 3gb wasn't fraudulently marketed as being the same as its bigger brother, it'd be a 1050 ti, and the 1050 ti would be the 1050, etc. I mean giving people less for more is what nvidia specializes in after all so it's not a huge surprise, the only reason we ended up with the original Titan is they realized amd didn't have shit on Kepler, so they just moved every chip up a segment, the 680 became the titan, which cut down became the 680, 660 became the 670, etc. and consumers got a huge steamy turd in their mouth.
There was once a day where '80' of any series got you the flagship chip, even if it was cut down. Those days are long gone. Greed + AMD being trash. Prices only going to go up on the mid-range from now on, they're already much higher.
I really think the false advertising here crosses the line though, the 970 was believable as a failure to communicate internally on their part, but calling a card something it isn't? Just preying on dumb consumers and as we know most are very dumb.
It's fortunate almost all the demanding games coming out now are total trash so buying from such a greedy company in 2k17+ is quite avoidable.
