Dude what you're asking for isn't possible on a new laptop. Anything with an SSD in it is going to have a shit fucking pentium or celeron processor and 4 gb ram, and will choke as soon as you load up powerpoint. Laptop HDD's are plenty durable, they are designed for low power usage, and therefore don't work as hard. Sacrificing the SSD for more ram and a faster processor will give you a better overall experience, plus you'll have more than just 30 gigs of space to store files.

Sounds like you've gotten unlucky with laptops, that's not the norm.
Netflix will be fine, it's just a streaming service and will only be limited by internet speed; you don't have to do any processing for it. Office will run, but doubtfully in the "good manner" you described in OP.
Consider chromebook.

I would suggest you look at laptops in the $500 plus range.
The $300 range of laptops is seriously less than ...good.

/e Yes, you could probably find one in the $300 range, but it won't last, and it won't make her happy.
