I cannot be detained indefinitely by my own government but you can buy a gun endangering everybody, tit for tat.
neither can i, unless i drastically change my lifestyle. as to the "endangering everybody" bit,
I could superimpose the US over Europe and pull anecdotes about freedoms your countries have taken from people inside of the shadow it casts geographically. Burka bans in France. Naming my kid Adolf in Germany. Owning a gun, anywhere. Voting on independence without thugs cracking my skull in Spain.
In the end many of your countries are like states, and what is and isn't allowed there is based on the regional perspective of it's people. Not being able to own a machine gun in Norway isn't a big deal, having socialized medicine off of the income tax pool is a big deal in Alabama. Shit's all relative. Any good studies on "who's free" show more regional perspective of what's important than actual comparisons of freedom.
