Most of Canada is 19 for legal drinking age.
Here in Alberta it’s 18. And alcohol is far worse for the mind and body than marijuana would ever hope to be.

“Alcohol is a very dangerous substance. Not only does it have many short term effects, but there are serious long term effects as well. Alcohol is a depressant. It slows down the central nervous system, increases heart rate and blood pressure.”

I mean I support full scale legalization. I would support 18 age limit but ideally I think 21 should be the aim.

But it's not like marijuana is risk free. So policy to prevent habitual use of marijuana in teenagers/young adults should tried to be achieved , same with alcohol.

Cops are on highways patrolling. Distracted driving is very enforceable. Cops do not have any presence where the magority of underage drinking occurs.

Although ideally people probably should not be doing psychoactive drugs since the mind does still develop up till 25. It's not really feasible to set that as a requirement.

I think 21 is a good compromise spot. But then you just have the reality if you treat adults at 18 the same way you would as if they were in their 20s in terms of criminal punishment , then not allowing the right to access at 18 seems kind of suspect.

But I guess maybe that means we need to reform our criminal justice system to have the idea in mind of human psychological/cognitive development that a person that is 18 and 25 are significantly different with in respect to risk and emotions.

This is probably a good topic to make another thread on tbh.

Studies have shown heavy pot usage before 25 will mess up your brain development, 18 year olds are for the most part morons who base their whole lives off peer pressure, i know i was for sure.
Losing an entire generation to pot seems like a bad idea.

That doesn't justify filling our prisons with nonviolent offenders.

would it be considered violent for an adult to give a child access to a drug that damages brain development?
at what age is someone capable of making that decision to damage their development? such as if we later find that marijuana damages till 27 would we thus not allow 26 year olds to purchase marijuana?

I agree that drug use is a non-crime in general.
