How else are we going to adapt as humans to an increasingly polluted environment? India and China are already ahead of us in producing these generations of super humans, we need to keep up.

Haven't you heard? China is totally ok now. President Xi "a lotta people don't know this but he's a president not a king" Jinping gave Trump lots of shiny things to play with so they're totally friends. I'm sure Xi will tell the EPA how to best help the US become like Beijing so the children can be nice and healthy.

You think eons ago when the "normal" fish were cracking jokes at the water cooler about those strange fish that have fins resembling limbs and flopping around on beaches knew what they were talking about? Who knows maybe we're at a similar stage in history.

OMG !!!! Look what it did to the environment already...it's pure desolation. :/

Oh noes...it's gonna disrupt South Dakotas fishing industry...Oh wait, their agriculture industry...oh wait, their lumber industry...oh wait. Derp.

Yeah, it'll probably get into the ground water, but compared to the volume of ground water, this spill is tiny.
You wanna drive cars that use gas, you wanna have plastics, you want lubricants, then you need oil for that.

But, but, we could buy it from the middle east. Yeah, good idea, send them more money to fund our demise.

How convenient for those against the pipeline. The coincidence here is staggering. The odds of a large leak, in a place where it really doesn't matter too much, and the announcement of the PSC decision 4 days from now, is just amazing.

I don't know what the result will be in the far future for allowing this pipeline to be OK'd. I do know what not allowing this pipeline will do to prices in the US, and to the amount of money the middle east has to work with.
Since I sincerely doubt that everyone in the US is going to suddenly get environmentally conscious, then I would think this pipeline won't really be any worse than people not carpooling, for example.

The numbers aren't pretty, but if the US wants to keep consuming at the rate we do, not to mention the world, then we pretty much have to make some allowances.
I guess all the environmentalists could volunteer to walk the underground pipeline to constantly check for leaks. This way the leaks could be prevented or kept down to a minimum.

Lot of folk talk a good game, but still gonna go nuts when the prices rise. Like all this energy comes from...nowhere...by magic.

Ghot bang on time to jump to the defence of his God-emperor. Hack seems too soft a word for you at this point.

Seriously - is there anything Trump could do that you wouldn't defend? Anything he has done?

it's going to take years, probably centuries to know the outcome of this incident

but because it's natives, we shouldn't care?

what if it was your family's backyard?

What he said was pretty reasonable.
This 'trump doesnt care about anyone, and people who defend his policies are hacks' anti-intellectualism is getting real old.

No one is happy about spills. But oil also plays a key role in efficiently fueling our everyday lives. Overlooking that fact is a grave mistake.

Oh no. It's cool. He's probably right that this oil spill is pretty insignificant really. But he wouldn't have said shit if a Trump policy wasn't being criticised.

Well Ofcourse not. It's because it's the policy that is being criticised that he has to say something. Spills happen, no matter how many precautions you put into place they happen. There will always be at this time human negligence and error, it may be in construction or monitoring, but regardless what administration gives a go ahead these things happen.

This isn't an administration vs administration issue.

For some reason people just want to yap, oh Obama, oh Trump.

What can be done is far steeper penalties, policies, bylaws, and regulations that would move to more accountability which would likely result in less incidents dispite human error still being a factor

Yes, buy all of their oil until they run out, then start using our own reserves. What else do they have to offer....sand?

what do you mean?

Obama wanted to assess it before it was approved(which never happened)

as soon as Trump gained office, it was approved

edit: Trudeau is just as much at fault though
