malwarebytes

+ brain + hardened install + toolkit for suspect based checks (you need this because malwarebytes is sufficient for daily use but you need a fallback way to keep the sys clean and there's nothing worth actively keept running)

And... Norton in 2017? XD

I guess it all depends on WHERE you surf.

I personally use Bitdefender Internet security 2018, it doesn't really have any overhead, and gives me peace of mind.
Been using it since 2013.

In this day and age they are kind of obsolete for personal use. Between Windows Defender and Chrome/Firefox, you're already as protected as you need to be. Just stay away from the shady websites (most notably smaller porn sites), or if you do go there, use a sandbox.

The OPs question is not whether or not he needs an AV. He asked what was the best AV.

Definitely need to pick a new one myself.

My desktop needs a reformat. It’s running slower.

AVG is garbage. It auto installs stuff now, even if I decline. I’ve kept track of it, they’re really getting aggressive. The pop ups are frequent, too. Almost the same as mild advertisement spyware.
