So I built my sister her pc and am trying to OC a ryzen 5.

Yet everytime i touch voltage or core, I get no post or anything at all. Just fans and lights, CPU and RAM codes show up on the motherboard.

The only way I've been able to get the PC to come back to life is by changing the CPU (reseating does not work, must change the processor).

Now ignore my fuck ups, I'll figure those out -

But i am just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and knows of maybe an easier way than constantly removing and reapplying my cooler to keep re-trying.

To get the obvious things out of the way:
No cmos battery removal is useless, even with a power cycle.
No, removing or changing ram doesn't prompt/fix the situation.
Yes, bios is latest.
Yes, ram had XMP profile for these tests, but will be testing without XMP (it's geil memory, maybe they suck at XMP, idk).

Any info would be helpful, :)

You jumper the cmos?

There are some weird settings deep in the bios for ryzen you need to change.

If I tried to use xmp during oc I had the same issue. You try without xmp

What mobo?
Never had that issue on my 1700, though it stays at 3.9ghz cuz 4.0 with much higher temps isn't worth it for me. Also got my xmp profile set for my 3k ram

Actually I think I may have messed up the CPU/exacerbated an existing flaw..
I am unable to get this Ryzen 5 1400 to work at all now, yet my ryzen 3 1200 boots to windows no problem - the switching no longer works.

Mobo is a MSI PC mate b350 with some Geil RGB ram that was 80 bucks recently for 8 gigs.

Everything was perfect until I touched Voltage/frequency after enabling xmp (and testing that xmp is functioning - just a single cinebench run, same score/temps as non xmp...)

So my only guess is it's fried, but we shall see - I have another build to get to tonight and a spare ryzen 5 1400, I'll test it in a new mobo and try a new ryzen 5 and let you guys know :o

To finally bring this to a resolution, I think the chip got messed up somehow.
I have been unable to get it to boot in the old machine or any new machine.
In the initial machine, I just threw in a 6 core and oc'd it to 4.0 without issues, so I guess that chip was bad from the start (although it did install all of windows/drivers etc, ocing was my very, very last step.)

Very shocked! The first time in history I've ever had a component die on me like that, out of some...350-450 components!
(and still never had a DOA component)

Well warranty service here I come...

A bit off topic, are FSB deadzones still a thing?
