Hello, pretty much new to computer building as I've always just bought pre-made ones. Keep in mind I have 0 computer hardware knowledge. I recently upgraded to a Geforce GTX 1070 ti to play PUBG (the main game I play) and now am contemplating to upgrade my processor, mobo and ram as well. There is no budget, but I want to buy something that is cost effective and serves it's purpose. (i.e. I won't buy an i9 since an i7 is good enough)

This is my current set-up I bought in 2015 as a pre-made on newegg:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Mother Board: AsRock Z97 Anniversary
SDD: Samsung 850 EVO
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3
PSU: 600W

There are so many mother boards on newegg and it's hard to sift through what I'm really trying to get (I'm a complete computer hardware noob). Could you give me some advice on which MOBO to get? I'm mainly using this CPU for gaming (PUBG).

I'm looking to get the intel i7-8700K or intel i7-7820X. Should they perform relatively the same for my gaming purposes? Is it a waste to get the i7-7820X?

What RAM should I be getting? Just some random DD4 that is compatible with the mobo/processor?

Am I missing anything important?

Thanks in advance.

Its not worth going to a new cpu tbh.
The gains of ddr4 over ddr3 are minimal.

I would just get a total of 16gbs of ram if you don't have it and oc the current cpu.
PUBG and most other games are gpu dependant

I think you posted in the thread I made a few weeks ago about PC problems, basically I brought my PC back to the shop and they said something was clashing with the mobo/video card and causing my cpu to crash, blue screen and go into repair mode. And the guy said to use these certain drivers for the video card, I did that and it still crashed and he said he didn't know what else to do.

So, I pulled out video card and computer works really well now with 0 crashes/restarts/blue screens, etc. Not sure what else to do at this point, but to change mobo and upgrade processor at the same time?

Doesn't seem like cpu/mobo/ram issue unless it's a bum PCI slot (where the graphics card slots in to the mobo)
If you have multiple PCI slots, try a different one and see if it still happens. Are you making sure you have all the power the GPU needs plugged in? Depending on what you had before, the 1070ti could be drawing more power than what your system can deliver depending on what kind of PSU you have, especially if you're overclocking it.

Sounds like video card problem, not cpu/mobo/ram unless it's a bum PCI slot (where the graphics card slots in to the mobo)

Video card is new, so I assumed it was another part that was malfunctioning.

How do I test if it's a bad PCI slot?

He also mentioned the mobo I had wasn't very good according to his google search and reading about it, along with brand being not that good either.

Any merits to that?

I don't really know anything about that chipset specifically, but ASRock is one of the bigger motherboard manufacturers, at least today (I don't know about 4-5 years ago). Do you know exactly what kind of power supply you have?

/e Easiest way IMO would be if you could get your hands on a similar TBP (watts usage) GFX card and see if you still get crashing. If you do, it's probably the PCI slot or power deficiency. If it doesn't, bad video card.

High Power 80PLUS 600W
MODEL: HPG-600ST-F12S

How to test power deficiency? Or is that power supply ample enough? How long is a power supply life? I've had the computer for a little over 2.5 years now.

We established that shop wasn't creditable...

Take it to another shop.

asrock is asus cheaper line.
while one should expect more failure rate due to being a budget board I don't tend to see a lot failing.

theres no real way to test a psu unless you can read voltages under loads.
You can use a psu tester but they are not 100% and or more of a quick tool.

psu's can last 10+ years depending on conditions and many other factors.
I have a antec quadro 1k psu for instance and I've had it since 2008.

Yeah, I went back and they had a different person work on it instead of the first person.

So if I changed to another mobo, what should I be getting? (budget doesn't matter)

The current one I have only has 1 PCI slot I think...
