Why shouldn't the electric company be allowed to charge whatever the hell they want? For the majority of the US internet is a monopoly. We need to get out of the antiquated mentality that high speed internet isn't a requirement for our lives.

how's it trolling? why shouldn't the electric company be allowed to charge what they want? just because they can doesn't mean they will. It makes zero sense for them to price their customers out of the market.

Just figure out how to make your own internet company, then you can decide how to charge people.... until then, quit complaining.

You think the people making these decisions haven't been around the business since it started? That's why they are in the posisition they are in.... bending people over a barrel, and why shouldn't they? They earned it fair and square where you just sat around and watched porn on the internet.

It has been addressed that there is no competetion and whereas the service is necessary the customer has no recourse. Fuck the ISP's with the long dick of the state.

they dont want to price them out of the market completely. but say you're living in a place with just one electric grid owned by one electricty company. what if they decide to only provide power from 9am to 7pm, at double the previous price? since all the cables under streets as well as all the pylons are already in place, the cost for other electricty companies to put up an alternative, parallel but separate electricty grid would be prohibitive.

would you support that development because of free market reasons?

why is there no competition? because of more government regulation that prevents individuals from laying line and starting businesses? it still makes no sense for them to price you out, they make no money off you.

honestly, net neutrality needs to be fuccin smashed into a thousand pieces.

Its quite simple, the largest hurdle is clearing the legislative hurdles set by the people bought by the ISP's like Ajit only at the state level :bonk: the power of the state cant be eliminated so you have to limit companies access to it.

when it comes to electricity grids and internet cables, the costs of exploration are huge while the costs of operating are miniscule. this naturally yields a tendency towards monopoles. and when it comes to basic services that are parts of the basic needs of modern life, like water, electricity and quick internet, the government/society cannot and should not allow those monopoles to be exploited too much. particularly when considering that the government has often times subsidized the construction of this infrastructure with big amounts of taxpayer money.

how is "fast internet" a necessity to human life? isn't it a service?

what defines "fast internet"?
