Many other options are not well known, not kept up to date, specialize too much in a single field (forensics, networks analysis, etc.), or are just plain sketchy. Installing an OS full of tools written by hackers is one of the fastest ways to compromise yourself :)
True, but shouldn't you start from the ground up?
Ubuntu > arch > black arch running in a vm was my approach at learning things
now I just use slackware mainly or arch/i3wm with a basic arch install in vm with some programs to mess around with
