look guys, this is just a spare PC my brother plays on not looking to build a new one he plays like 1-2 steam games.. and thats it.. I would still be using the 650 if it didn't over heat.. so im just asking what other PCIE 2.0 cards would be a little better then a 650

fyi stock i7 920

i don't know why you keep saying pcie 2.0, that's the least important information here. even a 1080 ti will run in a pcie 2.0 slot with negligible performance loss if any most of the time...

more important is PSU, I could recommend some faster used cards that would be quite cheap but require some more power than a 650 like a 660 ti or r7 360 from ebay but im not sure of your wattage.
if you wanted to buy new for some reason, a 1050 ti would be a fine match and i wouldn't go much higher than that. PCIE 2.0 will definitely never be a limiting factor with such a card, and if the psu ran a 650 it will surely handle this.

Clean the 650 and reapply thermal paste if you were content with it.

Gt 1030 is a good budget option with better performance than a 650.

Well to be honest the reason i'm getting rid of the 650, is cause I keep getting driver errors, i've tried to reinstall fresh drivers, but i still get "Display driver NVIDIA stopped working and has recovered"

it just started doing that as well, like i said i dont use this PC hardly at all my main pc is a i7 3770k

think it could be overheating? or lack of thermal paste?

psu is a 600W

Why don't you provide a Speccy screenshot...and list the make and model of your power supply as well...it is not shown on the Speccy screenshot.

As for drivers...if you are having issues with them you need to use DDU to uninstall the old driver and then install the new driver.

Info for these two things is below...

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link
...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility.
...simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ...get tyhe latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
