there are pretty big differences between the two situations.
trump didnt overlook repeated requests for more security at a high-risk embassy.
nor did he lie about it resulting from a YouTube video.
nor is an embassy being sacked the same as military deaths

so lets review:

• Press takes a swing at Trump and baits him
  
• Trump falls for bait and says something factually true but he's a moron for saying it with such optics
  
• Press goes in a tizzy lambasting him for being a monster
  
• Trump doubles down by pointing out facts that support what he said
  
• Press props up some spin to deflect from those facts in the most disingenuous fashion and call it a lie again

In this case, Trump got baited into pointing out his predecessors didn't always call families of fallen soldiers like he did, he points out that Obama didn't call John Kelly, then media runs with "But Obama invited Kelly to a gold star breakfast", which occurred 6 months later and is the same memorial day event with gold star families that takes place every year, heck Trump spent personal time with Kelly at the last one.

Demanding outrage over pettiness is petty.

The real outrage should be that Americans died in Libya over oil and international banking interests, and in Niger over oil in the Delta. We should be outraged that our military is not in the business of defending our homeland or national soverignty; they are in the business of protecting global corporate interests.
