lacerations heal, radiation doesn't.

My thoughts
But deep cuts can be immediately fatal, not to mention very painful

Well yeah you'd bleed out in under 5 seconds if you hit an artery with a laceration,

but with radiation you'd experience a wide variety of symptoms and pain before an excruciating prolonged death.
