It appears Senator McConnell is bowing to pressure and will no longer uphold Senate tradition that allows a single Senator to block judicial nominees if the appointment affects their state.

Franken blocking Stras was uncalled for. Even Amy was ready to approve him, because the alternative was that Trump either goes and gives Minnesota's seat to some even more regressive Arkansas judge or goes nuclear on the blue-slips.
When the democrats held such little veto power in the aftermath of the nuclear senate wars that they so gleefully engaged in, they should have been more, uh, conservative, with what they had left.
If they're going to use it for absolute obstructionism like the Republicans did, well the difference is that the Democrats are powerless. Futilely impotent obstructionism, isn't

The tables will turn though and the GOP will not have blue slips. They won't be respected.

The democrats are dealing with nuclear fallout. The tables did turn, the republicans took control, and now they're walking through the door Reid opened
Its like the disingenuous protestation over the SCOTUS nuclear fight last year, when the only reason the rule wasn't changed back in 2013 was that the democrats weren't appointing a supreme justice at the time. When the shoe goes back onto the democrats other feet some day, why would anyone expect the blue-slips to hold in the face of republican obstructionism anyway? The Republicans can't forfeit any partisan gain here if there was no expectation of good faith from the democrats in the first place. And Franken's veto of Stras shows the state of 'good faith'

It's like a ping-pong game of hypocrisy. Whoever's in charge changes the rules to suit themselves; whoever isn't complains about how unfair it is...

I dunno, the Gang of 14 averted the Bush era nuclear crisis, and it only really escalated under Reid.
Its hypocritical from both sides, but the democrats own the lions share.

And the Republicans turned Gerrymandering into a science and blocking appointments into a sport. No one gets a pass.
