Maybe teenage Kylo got mad that his overbearing parents told him he wasn't allowed to use the Force to prank his friends (its just a prank bro). Luke just chalked it up to typical teenage angst and advised his parents to back off and give him some space. That led to him spending his weekends unsupervised in unsavory parts of town, allowing a Sith lord to swoop in and start up a relationship. When they realize he went dark side, Luke blames himself for the failure. He feels responsible for Han/Leia "losing their son" so goes into exile.
