Just made my first signature ever using gimp, used a sword art online render & found out you can make pretty cool backgrounds. it is not good at all but it was fun :D

Had no idea what I was doing really but figured I would give it a try. Please rate for a first attempt :) I would like to start practicing in my free time I had fun making it!

P.s. don't look at the black background on the left hand side

Edit: now that I have been looking at it for a bit and checking out other people's work I think next time I should try and blend the render in somehow with the background. Also full the whole canvas. Also maybe get some more background renders & spend a little more time :)

It's not the worst thing ever xD

But yeah as your edit states you really need to make sure the render blends into the BG a bit more. For the most part he is save for that bottom right side which the render is squared.

Never really used Gimp but smudging really works well for that in PS and also finding some decent C4D's to overlay on top of a render can hide those edges well.

In case you didn't know, the name for all those cool little effects ect are called C4D, so just google some C4D packs from Deviantart or something and start messing around :D

Yeah I watched a quick tutorial the other day, the person used a Griffin render & smudged the left wing since it was cut off the same way using gimp.

Also just got a pretty cool c4d pack, didn't know what to look up to find them so I just googled background renders when I made this :P

Might try the same render tonight with smudging & see what I come up with :)

Still playing with things but I feel like the render blends in a little better don't look so out of place.

Learned how to use a few tools, went around the render & used the smudge tool a little bit. Also used the eraser to take off background overlap figured I would give the same render another go tomorrow & work on the background a bit.

Not really too sure what I'm doing with the background just messing around with it. Might try to find a pack to use for background stuff since I'm just using Google images currently lol..

the background still looks horrible lol. I figured out how to sharpen the character & do smudging but still a little lost on the background. followed a tutorial on smudging the c4d's i place & came up with this.

I'll try another tonight with a landscape from sword art online and see what I come up with using a girl added in :)

I feel like the current attempt was a lot better than my first one though. Just need to keep practicing lol it's only been 3 days :)

watched a few videos & everyone of them used a background, picked one from sword art online & got a new render to work with :D going to try and add in some C4D along with do some lighting to shine down & add some shadow. plan on making a spiral of light surrounding them for the lighting not 100% sure yet. work in progress :D here is my progress so far!

Please let me know what i should do differently :D just finished, added a little lighting to the center.

was going to add some red into the sky mostly on the right side and smudge it in so it draws a little attention over there also
