I used to collect minerals. Quartz crystals are my favorite. I was able to find a few nice pieces of it in the ground near my old house.

massive amounts of this where I live

I've found a lot of really cool stuff throughout the California mountain areas over the years

since there was more water than usual last winter it washed away a lot of mountain side so I was able to get to areas I wouldn't have otherwise had access to

I plan to start a stone, rock and mineral collection

Gonna start with basics such as

Topaz
Peridot
Lapiz lazuli

Etc

I think natural formations are really cool given the lattice structure and colours

These form about two hours north of Minneapolis. Really neat little stone formations (called Fairy Crosses). It's one of only a few places in the world where they are found.
