It isn't their own version it's a completely different character.

This. It just doesn't feel like Castle, it doesn't feel like the Punisher. All of his actions/methods etc.. are just completely off, not to mention that he acts like a fucking idiot half the time, when he should be insanely intelligent. They have him act like your average low-mid intelligence army grunt who's prone to anger and logic and reason are afterthoughts, vs The Punisher, who was a cold-blooded killing machine who was next to invincible because of his meticulous calculations and brilliant executions. It's just not even remotely similar to the character. Still enjoying it, but I just wish they'd stop creating new characters that have NOTHING to do with the source material, and then tagging them with some popular heroes name to get more viewers.

I don't really care about source material whatsoever. I just like a good story.

But you're right there are inconsistencies that drag it down.

How can you try to argue about whether it's a good "punisher" show when you say you don't care about source material. That's so fucking stupid.

Why should any version of anything have to rely on a story that someone else already made? A good story is a good story regardless of whether it follows your preconceived notions of what the story "should" be or not.

Not what the story should be, what the character should be.

You wouldn't make a James Bond film where he wasn't a secret agent for mi6, because that isn't the character. It isn't a bond film anymore, it may be a fantastic stand alone masterpiece but it is not a good bond film.

e: and that's what this show is, it's a good show, but a shit punisher show.

Sure. A good film but not a good bond film. I agree with that.

But what I'm stating is that I don't care about having a good bond film. I just want a good film. I'm not sentimental enough to want anything more than that.

I get that, but personally I'm a bit annoyed at people using a name to sell tickets, so to speak, rather than making original things.

I judge things differently based on what it is vs what it should be. Which is why I can say change the shows name and get it away from the punisher crap and it's a great show, but it sucks massively at being a punisher show.

E: I want to point out I only do that comparison for things that have a history, not for everything that comes out.
