Not sure if you guys read my posts a long time back but I upgraded from a FX 6300 to a 2600k

And yeah, performance is night n day difference (especially in the Godot game engine) -- and I found the 2600k pretty cheap ($100 or so on ebay) so it was a budget upgrade as well. I'm very pleased with it

With that said...

The new CoffeeLake CPUs are coming out I just keep thinking to myself is it really worth it? I'd have to buy new DDR4 ram, new mobo, and a i5 or i7 CoffeeLake CPU. Which will be a min of $200 i'm sure

i'm an extremely frugal person and just cannot see me spending that much money. or is my frugality hindering the potential difference in performance I can gain?

It'll last till you can't find a reasonably priced motherboard for it, anymore.

DRAM is predicting to keep increasing in price so you may want to upgrade by Black Friday/Cyber Monday if you're able to, otherwise it might be even more expensive to upgrade later on.

If it's worth for you? Cannot say.
You haven't told anything about usage or do i know anything your personal economy. So pretty much impossible to tell.

I will probably be waiting for 10nm 6cores. Right now my Ryzen 1700 handles all my heavy stuff and my 4790k is pretty decent for gaming.

yea i touched on the godot game engine a little bit in op, but i do game development stuff, a workstation if you will. have it paired with a rx 480 if that matters

thanks, was thinking of ryzen 1700 tbh but i do game at 144hz/1080p so kinda of want as much frames i can get and right now with the 2600k most games hold up nicely (path of exile, c9, soul worker)

The 2600K was and still is an awesome CPU.

If you get bored, overclock it to 4.8Ghz or so. :)
