So my radeon 7950 finally rip'd on me today (2012-2017) so i need a new one but not very sure where to look

looking at 970 or a 980 but not sure where is best place to land

Im looking to buy asap but im buying it off amazon or newegg so i dont need a link to a sale just which is the most reliable.

what do you play and at what resolution?
whats the refresh rate of your monitor?

what cpu too.. wont make sense to get a 1070 or even 1060 if hes still on a phenom II/FX-6300 or something
