i use the compensator for smgs since you wont be doing any long range shots.
i also use compensator only for the sks, bolt action snipers dont need it because of it being single shot.
regarding Attack rifles, i use it only for the AK47 because of the recoil, scar/m4/m16 i use flash hiders since the guns are stable enough to shoot by itself. if you need a compensator for your 5.56 guns you need to work on your aim..
ultimately you want a suppressor

SCAR does the lowest DPS of all the ARs in close range. People like it for mid-long range because of the low recoil so you spam more shots.
For close range M16 has the highest DPS but people like AK because it takes 1 less hit to kill than the other ARs.

Oh on bolt snipers anything but a suppressor is just useless of course
