Is California wanting to become it's own country, again?

I remember that idea going around when I had lived there.

As a California I hate brown. Still can't believe the car registration tax hikes. We're already one of the worst States for registering a vehicle and while we're at it let's double the fucking cost when we were already one of the highest paying. Thankfully I have a small car but I have friends paying 600+ a year now while one state over in Arizona it's 120 every 5 years. Over the lifetime of a 10 year work truck your now looking at another 5k+ in cost not accounting towards maintaining and upkeep of the vehicle to be within codes for CA state laws. Not only that but if you have houses in multiple states CA still requires your cars to be CA plates when being driven in CA. So basically if you spend a week in California a year you better give the state some cash and a DMV visit. Fucking stupid

I see you have totally seceded from the topic.

se·cede
səˈsēd/
verb
verb: secede; 3rd person present: secedes; past tense: seceded; past participle: seceded; gerund or present participle: seceding

withdraw formally from membership in a federal union, an alliance, or a political or religious organization.

You have heard of South Carolina I assume?

I left California when they decided to let each city, borough, township etc. determine it's own fines for traffic violations. 1995-96 I believe.

/ee 27mph in a 25mph zone and the ticket was $125. That was all it took for me.

Alot of my co workers grew up out here in the 80s and early 90s now they live out of state. They all say it's fucking bs. Hell one of co workers lives in Nevada most of the year but because of how many days he spending working in CA has to pay some weird ass tax to them. Hate these fuckers ca literally out to nickel and dime any and every way they can. Hell they'll even have a sanctuary City just for the additional income. Like "naw fuck laws let them do business. We can tax them on it we don't make shit sending em back"

Are you claiming it is legal for states to secede from the Union?

Quote (Goomshill @ Sep 16 2017 07:12am)
the CA state legislature has gone completely off the rails in full blown partisan provocation mode, with three separate attempts to push the dial to 11/10:

  • Passing a resolution urging (federal) congress to 'immmediately censure President Trump' 'for his racist and bigoted behavior' over Charlottesville
  • Passing a bill to Brown that would move the CA primaries (ALL primaries in the state, not just presidential) up to be one of the first in the nation, which would break both DNC & GOP party rules, stripping CA of all its delegates
  • Passing a bill to Brown that would require presidential candidates to release their tax returns to be listed on the state ballots, thereby removing Donald Trump from the 2020 ballots

The last one is by far the most damning, dangerous and unprecedented. There could be nothing more fundamentally undemocratic than trying to remove an opposing candidate from the ballots, and california is on its way to sparking a constitutional crisis and the total breakdown of democracy. First, its worth pointing out the blaring hypocrisy that on the same week they passed a measure moving all state and federal primaries up, they crafted the tax return bill to only affect the presidential election, not their own state elections, so it doesn't apply to the same lawmakers voting on it- a republican senator forced them to vote down an amendment that would make it do just that. And Brown himself didn't release his tax returns in his last 2 elections either, probably none of the lawmakers for that matter. But opening this can of worms goes well beyond just hypocrisy, its the pandora's box of a crisis if this actually gets signed into law, because then it forces both a showdown in the courts as well as provoke retaliation from the republicans. And the republican trifectas, particularly those in swing states, would have a joyous time crafting their own extortionate criteria based on the eventual democratic candidate, or just pass measures to categorically exclude them. If in 2020 Trump isn't on the CA ballot and no democrats are on the Wisconsin, Florida, New Hampshire or Virginia ballots, that would delegitimize the entire election and send us hurtling into societal collapse, wailing and gnashing of teeth, dogs and cats living together, etc.

lolwat

Trump can just release his tax returns... like he said he would. I don't know why the Trump cult is cool with their leader just straight up lying to the American people.

Didn't MSNBC release his returns a few months ago during primetime already? Should cover that whole ordeal, or was jerry brown already asleep at the time?

why would people in 6 different states who voted Obama in twice and Trump in once be scared?

Lol. 'Evil Mastermind'? He has to have a mind to be a mastermind and the trashy collection of FOX 'News' and breitbart articles rattling around in his otherwise almost entirely empty skull can hardly be called that. The guy barely even speaks English.

so ... pushing for voter id laws intended to marginalize specific demographics by creating legitimate barriers to registering/voting under the guise of preventing rare cases of voter fraud - which are committed largely by republicans - is perfectly acceptable

asking a billionaire to release his tax returns if he intends to run for president however counts as creating barriers to running for president and that isn't acceptable?

- id bet all my remaining fg that the same crowd that opposes this move would be on board with requiring the president to be sworn in on a bible
