stuff like absorb/max res was far from balanced.
people just went with what worked and pvp ended up being rly fun especially if people followed some of the community made rules.

ever watched movie "the room"? its a complete mess, but everything is so perfectly flawed that its one awesome movie! thats what happened with d2 bugs. wsg, invisible projectiles, strbug, those were the things that somehow made the pvp more fun and skill requiring instead of less (like in poe)
bottom line, d2 devs didnt even try to balance it but it was balanced. poe devs did all that logarithmic shit to balance pvp, but it is still crap
i myself wasnt one of the best d2 duelers, but i was good i guess
! and when i saw poe duels, i felt disgusted just how bad it was
i honestly wanted a new pvp game like d2 was. but poe will never be that
