Hello all. I just started playing LS when I got some down time at work. I am currently a level 20 Barbarian. I have a couple of various simple questions.

1 - Is the Catacombs the only "Explorable" area to level up/find items?
2 - Are maps just changes made to a Catacombs level, or will it be a whole separate place?
3 - For Transmuting/Glyphing/Suffusencing, where/when will you start getting the items to do those things?

1 - yes but you can explore (with the chance of spawning strong monsters for better drops) or whistle. otherwise you can get items by transmuting (needs a lot of profs before)
2 - maps will just add different stats to the normal exploring. ony other thing that changes is the colour
3 - at lvl 1. first lvls are the easiest to get by using tier1 items

If you want to become better you have to invest a bit into it. You can get really decent starter gear off the marketplaces for 1-5 fg a piece. You won't be able to do group climbs until you've gotten a full set of gear. Group climbs are much faster and you have more access to items for transmuting, glyphing etc quicker. If you like the game I'll see ya around

We'll see how things go... I can honestly see getting very bored very quickly with this game, but maybe not...

to give u a tip

look for enhaced effect for melee chars look for intelligence for casting chars on weapons
look for dex,strength or enhanced effect on for melee look for int for casting armors
look for dex or str for melee charms look for ee for casting charms

Part of the problem might be that you`re not using efficient gear. You have no enhanced effect in the weapon or armor nor do you have any stats in your gear to increase the damage of your weapon. It`s like trying to kill baal with a level 1 skeleton on necromancer.

I did just purchase new armor and 1 new charm. That will help a little.

But honestly, at level 20, even with the gear I had, my kill speed wasn't that bad. I'm still 2-hitting pretty much everything.

Another question I did have, it seems like at level 20, leveling up hits a severe wall. Is that true?

the ee armor and the charm you bought is good. the biggest problem is your weapon - it lacks ee ( ps : you were 2 hitting mobs because thats a heavy weapon, means you only attack once every 2 seconds ) normal weaps do half the damage but attack once a second . all weapons here : http://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=3

every level is the same in experience. You probably did play a map ? if so you were probably fighting monsters lower then your level, so it seemed like a wall to you. my guess you played the patched map

(patched) Imap = monster cap (max) lvl 15
(rawhide) II map = lvl 20
(tanned) III map = lvl 25

and so on.

there is 10 different map types , each with its own "monster eco system" , example :

sp_patl - That link is awesome, thank you. I knew I was attacking slower, but I didn't realize it was literally half speed. Question, under each weapon is a str/dex ratio. My assumption on what that represents is how damage output is affected by those particular stats. Is that correct, or am off base there?

You are also dead on regarding the map. I played a "Mystical Patched Beach" map, so level 15 monsters against level 20 me. Makes sense.
